Week 1 Review

Week 1 in College Football finally came and didn't let down one bit. So many stories, so many headline, so many amazing endings aka Boise/Va Tech, ECU/Tulsa, UNC/LSU, Jacksonville St./Ole Miss, and Navy/Maryland. But I want to reflect on things that stood out this week by putting them in certain categories. Here are my Week 1 accolades, and well the opposite of acoolades.

Best Team
Oregon- Not only did there Offense destory New Mexico for 59 points in the first half, but as a team allowed less than 120 total yards the whole game. I'm not saying that New Mexico was a great team, but they are not a BAD team either. The whole question was if Oregon's offense would run the same without Masoli running the QB position, but I have to say they pretty much can.

Most Impressive
North Carolina- Given the situation they were in the Heels came back from a 30-10 deficit in the first half and almost beat LSU with 2 seconds to go after driving all the way down the field. Two days before the game, UNC announced 16 players were not playing in the opening game against LSU. That goes for 9 people off their defense. They got the linebackers back who shut down the LSU running game, but were left vunerable in the secondary and punt coverage because well all of the secondary was not playing. Really impressive for them to hang in there.

Worst Team
Ole Miss- Let's talk about Masoli's new team. SOME HOW, he was able to get cleared, I really don't know how, but he did. Well think Ole Miss would have one hell of a team this year? Not quite. Jacksonville State went into Oxford and silenced the Rebels with a BIG upset in 2OT, sooo much for that SEC powerhouse..It's just pathetic.

Least Impressive
UCONN- Wow, did I just say that? Yes I think I did. No one else has looked back and commented on the Huskies performance saturday. Everyone is talking about how Michigan might have a Rich-Rod offense now, and that he might have saved his job. Well I agree with finding that Offense, but I picked UConn as one of the teams that could possibly win the Big East, and when you can't beat a Michigan team who is 4-6 in the Big 10, I'm not sure you'll be able to win the Big East conference. But please surprise me Huskies because I picked you!

Most Impressive Conference
Mountain West Conference- Starting with a Thursday night upset against Pittsburgh, Utah came out swinging for the MWC. Stopping a Dion Lewis offense in overtime was more impressive than anything. Kudos. Colorado managed to beat there in state rival Colorado State this year at Colorado State. You should have one, but still. No Kudos. Then Air Force played a nobody, but established their offense impressively. No Kudos. Oregon. I already talked about how they looked like the best overall team this week, so multiple Kudos. Jake Locker who? BYU might have just shut down Washington's QB's hopes for the Heisman in Week 1. I think he might have the same chance as Reggie Bush keeping his Heisman right now. Kudos. TCU closed down defensively against the Beavers late in the game, and pulled out a win against a ranked Oregon State team. Kudos. If you were to guess who had the second best blowout game who would you say? Well I don't care, but it is San Diego State. Yes, they played Nicholls St., but they did shut them out 47-0. Kudos. Well Wyoming wasnt't that impressive against a no name team, but they didn't lose. (Kansas and Ole Miss) And the only team to lose in week 1 from the Mountain West conference was UNLV against a #12 ranked Wisconsin team, who had it close in the first half 17-14, but got dominated in the third quarter.

Least Impressive Conference
Big East- I really won't to establish that the SEC did not have a good week, but overall the Big East did not impress me at all. I already talked about Pittsburgh losing to an unranked Utah team. Rutgers won against a no name after starting out bad in the first half. Louisville couln't beat there Rival Kentucky. UConn/Michigan was already explained. West Virginia, Syracuse, and South Florida won, but Cincinnati lost to a Fresno State team without Ryan Matthews this year..hmmmmm

Heisman Contenders
1. Kellen Moore (BSU)
2. Terrelle Pryor (OSU)
3. Kenjon Barner (ORE)
4. Patrick Peterson (LSU)
5. Reggie Bush (USC)

Well I'm out people for Week 1. Week Two Predictions and key game analysis will be up tomorrow hopefully so STAY TUNED!
